With access by land, sea and air, the Matsuyama area is a strategic transportation hub for Shikoku Island. The seaport and airport are adjacent to each other and a railway line runs nearby. There are regular cargo routes from the seaport and the airport handles both domestic and international flights.

Within Shikoku, roads are being developed. Expressways have been extended and a bridge connecting Shikoku Island to the main island of Honshu has been completed (Shimanami Kaido).

Because of the improvement in infrastructure, it is expected that Matsuyama region will become the physical distribution base within Shikoku or the West Seto region in the future.

In the Matsuyama region, an active industrial area includes factories that manufacture chemical, mechanical, forestry and food products and forms an integrated business area.
