This beach is popular with swimmers in the summer.

With a length of about 500 m, it’s the biggest beach on the island. It has plenty of facilities such as accommodation, a beach house, toilets, showers and so on. In summer, you can rent a barbecue set and tent, making it very popular with beachgoers. During the summer vacation, festivals and events are held, with stalls and live stage performances.

Things to see

You can look out over beautiful Setouchi scenery of sea and islands, so it’s enjoyable in seasons other than summer too. In summer, you can rent beach goods from the beach house.

Look out to sea from mountains surrounded by greenery

Heading north on the prefectural road from Nagashi where Himegahama is located, you come to Awai at the northern end. If you follow the prefectural road, it passes over the mountain from the east side to the west side. From the mountain road, you can look out over the superb scenery of Setouchi.

Things to see

Most of the mountain roads are steep farm tracks and impassible for normal vehicles. However, the prefectural road is great for driving. You can see blue sky and sea dotted with islands as far as the eye can see.

routeE Castle

Art from naturally sculpted rocks and trees

It’s not possible to get close to the big rocks on the west coast in the Uwama district, because the sea normally prevents it, but at low tide, you can get to them. No data is available about their size, but if you see them from close up, they look enormous.

Things to see

The rocks are full of fissures carved in the layers by the sea, and plants nearly cover them, creating an impression of the magnificent power of nature. Nearby is a triangular rock called “small castle”.

Location

With your back to the museum, turn right down the road, and you come to some especially big rocks in the sea.
